Trumpets over Water
“This series started with fish: the shape of them, the colour, the strange dignity of carrying one home like it matters. Somewhere along the way it picked up a brass band, a shark that won’t stay still, and four pieces I made almost entirely with my hands, tufting wool into jute the way I used to paint, slowly, and without a plan for how it would end.”
“I wanted work that felt like a catch: something you weren’t necessarily looking for, that you’re glad you found anyway.”

About Ayesha Abbas Khan
A painter of everyday processions.
Ayesha Abbas Khan is a painter based in Lahore and a graduate of the National College of Arts. Her work moves between crowded family gatherings, cosy interiors, city streets, horses in open fields and, most recently, a brass band riding a shark.
She paints in oil with a bold, flattened, joyful palette, and in 2026 began hand-tufting wool into jute. Alongside her studio practice she teaches art at Aitchison College, Lahore.
